Two friends on a long distance canoe trip down the Danube River seek safety from the high wind and water by camping on an island - but the island, located on a remote willow-covered stretch of the river- proves to be unfriendly to humans. This four part novella is one of Blackwood's best stories, and provides an excellent example of his ability to delve in horror in a very authentic manner-making the story all the more tense and believable.
